WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?
The vast majority of our thought processes, feelings and even actions are unconscious; that is to say, we do not actively attend to them as they occur. The more we allow our impulses, thoughts, environment and its impressions to unconsciously drive us, the less control we have over our lives.

Psychotherapy focuses on self-awareness to empower the individual to maximize their potential, finding contentment, freedom and happiness by rediscovering their own voice, priorities and the courage to utilize this insight. The therapist and client develop a therapeutic relationship based on understanding and respect. As they develop a working partnership, the barriers set up by our unconscious may open up, allowing for a new experience of self. This new experience enables a greater understanding and expression of enriched feelings, bringing with it renewed opportunity for personal growth and development.

Individual Counseling - The client & therapist explore the internal processes of the individual. This may include how they respond to their working relationships with those around them, specific events and/or personal motivations/challenges.

Couples Counseling – Instead of focusing on the internal processes of either individual, the emphasis in couples counseling lies in the relationship itself; communication is the key. Exploring the layers of meaning, the interactions and reactions in communication helps the couple resolve conflicts, set goals, define expectations, understand each other and build a stronger, smoother relationship.

Family Counseling - The family dynamic is a complex system involving each of the interpersonal relationships woven together. Just like a single thread can cause the entire cloth to come apart, so too it is important to understand and respect the family dynamic as a whole and how the individual relationships therein affect the entire unit. Family Counseling focuses on the subtlety of the dynamic, bringing to consciousness the strong impact of individual actions and/or words.

Child/Teen Counseling – Children and Teens are going through crucial developmental stages of human growth. These stages may often present challenges of their own, in addition to life’s many challenges. A special sensitivity and care must be exercised in dealing with such a sensitive and fundamental phase of life.

WHAT IS ADDICTION COUNSELING?
“Addiction is a human condition that affects most people fixed in habits of thinking that keep us stuck always awaiting for something else, something more to make our lives complete…we can change our addictive patterns and relationships by releasing fear from our lives and by letting love in.” L. Jampolsky, Healing the Addictive Mind

Addiction is a behavior that is repetitive; doing something over and over to the point that it has a high personal and social cost, or causes regret and shame. Indicators of addiction may include: secretive behavior, down-playing its affect, denial and/or remorse. A person’s life, health, legal and/or financial status, relationships, employment and career goals may all be profoundly affected by addiction.

If you or someone in your family needs help identifying and treating a drug/alcohol addiction problem, Personal Growth Institute can help. The goal of addiction counseling is to bring strength and empowerment back into the addict’s life. Step by step, inch by inch, day by day, by taking small steps that are realistic, we can help create a feeling of accomplishment and continuity by providing encouragement in the face of this overwhelming challenge.

The concern for addiction is not only limited to the individual, as it can also have a profound impact on the structure and/or interactions within the entire family. Therefore the family and/or specific others may play an integral role in recovery. They may be involved as a supporting element within the counseling process when appropriate as part of treatment.

Addiction counseling can help eliminate the self-destructive pattern from your life. Thereafter you can re-evaluate yourself and work on the other aspects of your life such as personal and intimate relationships, career goals, finding greater meaning and move towards greater empowerment, peace of mind, and abundance.

WHAT ARE NEUROFEED BACK/ BIOFEED BACK?
Sharing a common principal, both Neuro-feed back and Biofeedback have roots in the behavioral model of psychology.

Biofeedback is centered on consciously focusing on physiological responses (increased heart-rate, sweating, etc.) that are usually automatic. By doing so one can learn to regulate and even control how they process or respond to a given situation.

Neurofeedback focuses on the brain’s organization by studying brainwaves. This advanced technology trains people to reduce certain types of brainwaves and enhance others by using only their thoughts to play specially developed videogames.

These alternative treatments are almost universally applicable, proving effective in improving daily function for those who are committed and consistent in keeping to their training schedules.

Some of the many disorders that have been successfully treated by these technology-based modalities include: Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Prost-Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADD & ADHD, Learning Disability and Anxiety.

Neurofeedback is a gradual therapeutic & learning process which could take 20 to 60 sessions. The treatment requires a significant commitment of time in order to be effective. Moderate problems are usually alleviated in 20 half-hours sessions done twice a week.

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
The hypnotic state is one that occurs naturally. It is a feeling of deep relaxation enveloping both the body and mind. This is usually accompanied by a penetrating sense of comfort and heightened awareness. These feelings result from an open connection between the body, and the mind’s conscious and subconscious processes.

Hypnotherapy uses this hypnotic state to create a bridge between the mind’s conscious and subconscious, guiding the communication between the two and thereby triggering the dormant but powerful mental and physical self-healing process hidden deep inside.

WHAT IS LIFE COACHING?
Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize his or her own performance. Coaching is a relationship in which problems and opportunities are clarified, evaluated, and acted upon. Life coaching is not just a collection of techniques; it is a relationship that is both confidential and life changing. Through this relationship, you move quickly from problems to solutions, from insight to action, from the status quo to completely new outcomes in your life. The basic and fundamental nature of the coaching relationship is that your coach and you will actively collaborate. This relationship is a cooperative alliance between two equals for the purpose of meeting your needs. Life coaches are unbiased partners who support your agendas and explore a conversation of what you passionately desire and how you can achieve your dreams.

WHAT IS ART THERAPY?
When we have difficulty expressing our feelings, at the times of crisis, when we are so anxious and/or depressed that we cannot express our feelings, thoughts and concerns, the healing power of art therapy creates the possibility: To discover and identify our thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-threatening way. To reduce anxiety and depression. To foster self-awareness and achieve healing. To increase self-esteem and develop social skills. To encourage creativity, support feelings of mastery.

The creative faculty facilitates self-awareness, understanding and insight. By bypassing the limitations and labeling system that words create, art may be used to discover and investigate emotions that words can not express. Combining this form of self-expression with the therapeutic process allows for a guided exploration of experiences and feelings.

The visual imagery serves as a source for self-reflection, possibly revealing hidden strength and growth that may create a new spark to encourage and empower the individual with greater self-esteem and feelings of mastery.

Art therapy works with all ages, adults, children, adolescents, families and groups. No artistic skills are necessary in art therapy. Art therapy is a specific way of psychotherapy that uses art media, images and the process of creation to reflect on individual’s strengths and abilities to achieve self-growth.
